Blatchford – Breaking the Mold on Community Development
February 18 @ 11:30 am - March 18 @ 1:00 pm
We are pleased to invite you to our next CPANS Edmonton luncheon, where we will explore the groundbreaking Blatchford redevelopment project – a pioneering model of sustainable urban living right here in Edmonton. Join us to gain insights into how the City of Edmonton is leading the way in community development by acting as both the land developer and renewable energy utility provider for one of North America’s largest sustainable communities.
Presenters: Tom Lumsden, Dr. Christian Felske
About the presentation:
Learn more about how the City of Edmonton is acting as the land developer and renewable energy utility provider for one of the largest sustainable communities being built in North America. Blatchford (the former municipal airport lands) is an urban community in the heart of Edmonton, designed to be a great neighbourhood for families, a catalyst for transformational land development and a path towards a more resilient future.
Blatchford combines the best of mature neighbourhoods — central living, connected streets, vibrant public spaces — with sustainable features that will make the community resilient, including renewable energy and low-impact design, paths and public transit, high building standards and a diversity of housing. With the goal of being carbon neutral and using 100% renewable energy, Blatchford’s vision is ambitious, exciting and becoming increasingly important with the climate crisis.
