About the Presenter:  Brent Korobanik has been with Heidelberg Materials for over 20 years, transitioning from the cement plant’s Environmental Manager into his current role as Permitting and Community Liaison for the Carbon Capture Project.  Brent is a previous President of the Alberta Capital Airshed and also serves as Heidelberg’s representative on the City of Edmonton’s Corporate Climate Leaders Group.

A copy of the presentation is available here

Abstract: Heidelberg Materials has operated a cement plant in NW Edmonton since 1955, all along evolving as a leader in the industry through innovative advances in technology and improvements in sustainability actions.  Today, the Edmonton plant’s only virgin raw materials are limestone and sand, iron, clay and ash are all waste products of other industries.  The Edmonton plant has been generating GHG credits for the past 5 years, and now with the introduction of the alternative fuel system as well as the implementation of the carbon capture plant, Heidelberg has net-zero (and even negative) production in sight for a hard-to-abate materials; cement.  The presentation will present the current status of the carbon capture project as well as provide an understanding of Heidelberg’s Carbon Roadmap towards net-zero cement and concrete.
