SUMMARY:EAVOR-LOOP'S COMMERCIALIZATION JOURNEY
DESCRIPTION:Presentation 1: Eavor (pronounced “Ever”) is a geothermal technology-based energy company led by a team dedicated to creating a clean\, reliable and affordable energy future on a global scale. Eavor’s solution (Eavor-Loop™) represents the world’s first truly scalable form of clean\, baseload and dispatchable power. Eavor will provide an overview of their development efforts to date\, which began with prototypes in Rocky Mountain House and New Mexico\, culminating with their first commercial project in Geretsried\, Germany. \nPresenter 1: Brian Senio\, Corporate Development/Government Relations\, Eavor \nBrian obtained his undergraduate degree from Concordia University of Edmonton\, majoring in political economy. In 2011\, upon graduation\, he commenced employment with Government Members Caucus Research and Communications\, supporting MLAs with communications and policy support. Between 2012 and 2015\, Brian worked as the Senior Policy Advisor to the Minister of Health\, Chief of Staff to the Associate Minister of Health\, and Senior Policy Advisor to the Finance Minister. He now supports Eavor Technologies with government and corporate affairs to promote geo energy applications at home and abroad. \n  \n Presentation 2: Defensible Data: Navigating the Accuracy of NO2 Measurements \nAbout the Presentation: Understanding atmospheric trace gases is vital for unravelling complex chemical processes and shaping effective control policies. Among these gases\, nitrogen dioxide (NO2) holds pivotal importance for several reasons. NO2 isn’t just a trace gas; it’s a lethal toxin affecting human health and ecological balance. Monitoring its levels is crucial for public safety and environmental stability. Additionally\, NO2 significantly impacts air quality and contributes to the formation of hazardous substances like ozone\, along with acid precipitation. \n  \nGlobal has been working on new innovations designed to bring certainty to NO2 measurement: \n\nFor the past two years we have been fortunate to work with the Fort Air Partnership on a co-locate application\,  collecting continuous field data for our Photolytic Converter (PhoNO). Unlike traditional heated metal converters \, the PhoNO exclusively converts NO2\, ensuring accurate reporting without biases and can be used for a variety of applications\, from ambient or roadside monitoring to scientific research.\nIn 2023\, Global began co-located studies with our patented dual channel NO2\, NOx\, NO analyzer with NOAA and the USEPA. Our CRDS instrument detects NO2 molecules with high precision and sensitivity\, but also offers continuous monitoring of nitrogen oxides (NOx)\, providing a comprehensive understanding of air quality dynamics.\n\n  \nPresenter 2: Dr. Charles Odame-Ankrah\, Principal Scientist\, Global Analyzer Systems Ltd.  \n  \nCost: $40 – A&WMA Members / $50 – Non-Members / $15 – Students (includes hot lunch & coffee). SUMMARY:CLEAN AIR STRATEGIC ALLIANCE (CASA) VEHICLE EMISSIONS TESTING PROJECT IN ALBERTA: SUMMARY OF RESULTS FROM DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSES
DESCRIPTION:About the Presentation: The Clean Air Strategic Alliance (CASA) was established in March 1994. It is a collaborative partnership composed of representatives selected by industry\, government\, Indigenous\, and non-government organizations. Every partner is committed to a comprehensive air quality management system for Alberta. \nCASA began the third iteration of its ROVER (Roadside Optical Vehicle Emissions Reporter) project in 2018. The goal of the CASA ROVER III project is to measure emissions from the in-use on-road transportation sector\, particularly diesel-fuelled trucks\, to inform management actions and/or next steps for transportation emissions management in Alberta. The vehicle emissions testing contractor\, Opus Inspection Inc.\, used remote sensing to measure tailpipe emissions from vehicles in Fort McMurray\, Grande Prairie\, Edmonton\, Red Deer\, and Calgary\, as well as at six Vehicle Inspection Stations across the province. Opus then paired the emissions data with vehicle characteristic information to perform the analyses. The CASA ROVER III project team is currently using the results to help inform potential recommendations for transportation emissions management. The CASA ROVER III project is expected to be complete in April 2024. \nThe presentation will provide an overview of the project and summarize the data collection methods and analysis results. More detailed information on the project and the work completed to date is available on CASA’s website. \n  \nPresenter: Andre Asselin\, Clean Air Strategic Alliance \nAndre Asselin has been the executive director of the Clean Air Strategic Alliance and the Alberta Water Council since 2017. He is born and raised in Edmonton\, Alberta and developed a passion for collaborative decision making in managing Alberta’s natural resources early in his career. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Environment and Conservation Sciences with a specialization in environmental economics and policy\, and pursued graduate studies in resource economics\, both at the University of Alberta. \nPresenter: Rhonda Lee Curran\, Alberta Environment and Protected Areas \nRhonda Lee Curran\, P.Eng.\, QEP is the government co-chair for the CASA ROVER III Project. She has worked with Alberta Environment and Protected Areas for over 20 years in permitting and policy roles. As a Senior Source Standards Engineer in the Air Policy Section\, she has collaborated on multiple CASA projects to help reduce air emissions in Alberta. She has a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of New Brunswick and a Master of Engineering in Environmental Engineering from the University of Alberta. \n  \nCost: $40 – A&WMA Members / $50 – Non-Members / $15 – Students (includes hot lunch & coffee). DESCRIPTION:INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOCHEMICAL AIR QUALITY MODELLING\nThe link to the talk is HERE\nZoom Meeting ID: 822 4146 3250\nPasscode: 086583 \nClick the above link at noon on March 15th and we will be there!\nPlease forward this link to anyone that might be interested. \nAbstract: \nAir pollution scientists can investigate the causes of air pollution using measurements of the ambient air and the results of air quality modelling. While ambient measurements give an indication of how serious air pollution problems are\, but air quality models provide a detailed spatio-temporal pollutant concentration as well as allows testing different strategies for controlling air pollution. The issue of air pollution is complex due to the influence of medium and long-range transport of air pollutants and the need for mitigating secondary pollutants. The most effective way of testing control strategies in such situations is through regional photochemical air quality modelling. This presentation will cover basics of photochemical air quality modelling and the introduction to the tools SMOKE and CMAQ which are generally used for this purpose. \nPresenter: \nMujtaba Shareef is a senior air quality scientist at Alberta Energy Regulator and a sessional instructor at University of Calgary. He has over two decades of experience in the areas of air quality modelling\, ambient monitoring\, environmental impact assessments\, relevant policies\, and guidelines. He is currently involved with various air quality cumulative effects management initiatives in the province. His research interests include secondary air pollutants modelling\, source apportionment\, reduced form modelling\, and advanced air emissions data analysis. \n  \nRegistration and payment:\nNo need to register! SUMMARY:First Virtual CPANS Luncheon - April 15\, 2020 at Noon (FREE)
DESCRIPTION:The first ever VIRTUAL CPANS LUNCHEON will be held on April 15\, 2020 at noon MST and is FREE! \nThe link to the talk is HERE.\nClick the above link at noon on April 15th and we will be there! \nAbstract:\n \nHow do we ensure Environmental Compliance in the wake of Covid-19\, when most of us are working from home and can’t rely on paper-based processes? The answer is digital! \nSince January 2015 the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) has allowed the use of electronic Alberta Oilfield Waste Form to meet the requirement of full cycle tracking of hazardous waste. Most energy companies still use paper-based forms and antiquated databases or manual systems to track their hazardous waste\, despite the inherent risks associated with data integrity and data loss\, duplication of effort between field personnel and Environmental Co-ordinators and poor visibility of the information. Similarly\, Exploration & Production companies (E&Ps) are tracking water use through a combination of paper forms and spreadsheets\, making it extremely challenging to track compliance with the Temporary Diversion Licenses (TDLs) in accordance with Water Act. \nEnviroApps’ ez2Track solution automates tracking and reporting of hazardous waste and water usage\, increasing data accuracy and significantly reducing compliance effort. ez2Track is a cloud-based software Application (App) for field personnel that replaces paper and spreadsheet-based systems\, provides the much needed visibility and automatically generates the required reports for Regulatory Compliance. \nPresenters: \nAmit Bhargava: a co-founder of EnviroApps Inc.\, is a SME in the field of Environmental and Regulatory Compliance. Amit has more than 20 years of widely varied experience in a consulting and industry environment. He has a successful track record of designing and facilitating implementation of an Incident Management System and other software solutions to manage Regulatory Compliance for the Energy Industry utilizing an Environmental Management System approach. \nMayank Singh: also a co-founder of EnviroApps has more than 22 years of experience in the software sector. Mayank has delivered cutting edge solutions to clients like American Express\, Merrill Lynch\, State Street Bank and United Nations. Mayank was the architect of a pioneering product called eTeam\, one of the first versions of Intranets. When Mayank met Amit\, his high school class mate in Calgary after 25 years\, they decided to collaborate and utilize their acquired skill-set to solve some real world problems. \nRegistration and payment:\nNo need to register\nSee you at the luncheon!
